What Is Was?

= For those of you whose “Strunk & White” rules of grammar lie at the bottom of black trunks in your memory banks, here is the operative rule of grammar:

= The subject of the sentence is “A group” and “of 100 people” is a prepositional phrase. The verb agrees with the subject: A group was asked...not were asked.

= Dangling modifiers anyone?
